HUBER Wastewater Treatment Solutions for Individual Buildings
The conventional solution for decentralized wastewater treatment at residential homes and other buildings with up to 50 connected inhabitants is installation of septic tanks. Their effluent still contains high BOD, COD and nutrient (N and P) freights that are insufficiently reduced even in well built drain fields.
This results in systematic ground water contamination. Septic tanks are no longer permitted in Germany; small treatment plants must include biological treatment and existing septic tanks must be upgraded.
Several years ago we developed our Solution SeptiMem® for this problem. We upgrade the last chamber of septic tanks to a compact membrane bio-reactor by simple installation of a HUBER MembraneClearBox® (MCB) therein. This membrane filter retains all solids and bacteria. By diffusion of air, the MCB supplies oxygen to the biomass (activated sludge) growing in the third chamber.

The effluent (permeate) is of exceptional quality, in compliance with the European Bathing Water Directive, can be discharged even into very sensitive surface waters, and can be reused as service water (see also HUBER Solutions for Wastewater Reuse).
As before, septic sludge is evacuated every one to three years and centrally treated (see also HUBER Solutions for Septic Sludge Treatment in central wastewater treatment plants and SeptageTreat® in special plants).
